Enemalta has reported that at around 16:20, a third party private contractor working in Msida Valley, hit an underground 33kV Enemalta cable causing a surge which caused Boiler 7 and Boiler 8 at Marsa Power Station to trip. This led to a power cut which affected around 40% of Malta.
A gas turbine was immediately started and thanks to the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, power started to be restored 25 minutes later. Power was fully restored to all consumers by 17:45.
