AFM rescues three persons hanging onto capsized boat
On Sunday afternoon at around 15:00, the Armed Forces of Malta conducted a rescue operation at sea just off Dragonara Point. The Operations Centre in Luqa received a call stating that three persons were sighted afloat hanging on to a capsized sailing boat. A Search and Rescue (SAR) Launch (Melita II) was immediately dispatched to the area to render assistance.
The SAR vessel made its way battling the rough seas and was on scene within minutes. Subsequently the crew of Melita II, assisted and saved two persons that were hanging on their capsized boat. These were then conveyed to Maritime Squadron Base at Hay Wharf where an ambulance was waiting to deliver medical assistance. The rescued persons were both Swiss tourists currently in Malta on a holiday. Another Swiss man that was on the same sailing boat was picked up by a private dinghy that happened to be in the vicinity. None of the persons saved required medical assistance.
