Four immigrants escape from Safi detention camp
Posted on February 7th, 2009
Four northern African immigrants who were among the group of illegal immigrants that arrived in Malta on Sunday and were expected to be deported soon, escaped from the Safi detention camp on Friday night, sources close to the MaltaMedia revealed.
One of the immigrants was apprehended soon after.
A search is being mounted by the Armed Forces of Malta for the remaining three escapees.
Malta has repatriation agreements with several North African countries to send back illegal immigrants from these countries. However it does not have the same arrangement with other sub-Saharan countries.
