Posted on February 8th, 2009
Two foreigners have been arrested after cocaine was intercepted in a packet addressed to a residence in St Venera.
The discovery was made earlier this week by customs officials in Germany who investigated a large tin containing suspicious liquid. Local officials were consequently informed and the packet was brought to Malta by a Maltese police officer.
On Saturday morning, local police arrested a former resident at Hal Far Open Centre, a 25-year-old Nigerian national who now holds an address in Cospicua. A 19-year-old resident of the Marsa open centre who hails from Burkina Faso was also arrested.
Duty Magistrate Dr A.Vella is leading an inquiry.
The police are still investigating.
