Caravaggio scholar to visit Malta
Roberta Lapucci, world renowned Caravaggio scholar and restorer will be visiting Malta and attending the launch of ‘The 1565 Siege of the Knights of Malta at Fort St Elmo’. This second book in the series ‘Florence Malta Cross References’ will be launched this coming Saturday, 28th March 2009, at the Caravaggio Restaurant in Portomaso.
The publication documents the restoration of the lunette painting known as ‘The Massacre of the Knights at St. Elmo’ located in the refectory of the St Francis Friary in Rabat.
Cross-References project highlights a well established cooperation between SACI Florence and the Maltese Caravaggio Foundation to publish a series of books related to Caravaggio, for which Lapucci is scientific curator.
Each volume in the series focuses on the research, diagnostics and restoration of a Maltese painting. The aim is to encourage debate and further investigation of a large number of masterpieces waiting to be re evaluated.
During the launch event Roberta Lapucci and Fr Marius Zerafa will be saying a few words about the publications and about Caravaggio in Malta. A donation of the first two books of the series will also be made to the main public libraries and educational institutions in Malta, amongst which the University of Malta Library and the National Library.
Florence Malta Cross References series is distributed and available in all Agenda Bookshops in Malta.
Atelier culture.projects is collaborating closely with The Caravaggio Foundation on a series of initiatives. Atelier operates within the sphere of cultural management on a national and international level.
