Romanian held at airport over heroin; two others arrested
A Romanian man is being held by the Police following the discovery of 900 grams of heroin during the night between Sunday and Monday at the Malta International Airport. The Police had been tipped off that a foreigner will be attempting smuggle drugs into Malta.
The Romanian man is 25 years old and resides in Germany. He had just arrived from a direct flight from Amsterdam, Holland when he was stopped at the Malta International Airport.
Two packets of drugs were found hidden in a false base of his luggage. The Romanian man is to be arraigned on Tuesday morning.
Further police investigations led to the identification of the persons who were to get in possession of the said drugs. Two men, 27 and 30 from Ivory Coast, who reside in Zabbar and Qawra were also arrested.
In the Qawra residence, the Police discovered a further 80 grams of heroin and other objects related to drug trafficking.
