Due to unforeseen technical difficulties experienced by the ship transporting the fireworks for the foreign pyro-musical displays to Malta, the Malta International Fireworks Festival to be held in the Grand Harbour has been moved by 24 hours, the Malta Tourism Authority said.  The festival will therefore now be held on Friday May 1 and Saturday May 2. The same scheduled programme applies as before.

In all, 11 Maltese pyrotechnical companies will be involved in the festival.  These are:

Mount Carmel Fireworks Factory – Zurrieq
St Andrija Fireworks Factory – Luqa
St Mary Fireworks Factory – Ghaxaq
Lourdes Fireworks Factory – San Gwann
St Mary Fireworks Factory – Mgarr
San Nikola Fireworks Factory – Siggiewi
San Bert Fireworks Factory – Gharghur

Three foreign and one local Pyro-musical companies will also be participating.  These are:

Following this unfortunate postponement of the Festival MTA said that mariners are advised to note the changes in the dates and comply with the instructions promulgated in the MMA Notice to Mariners No 19 of 2009 titled ‘Fireworks Festival in Grand Harbour’ throughout the event.

Furthermore, the public transport will be operating as follows: Friday, May 1 until 01.00 am and Saturday May 2, until 24.00 hrs from Valletta bus terminus.  Transport by ferry will also be available from Birgu (Vittoriosa) and/or L-Isla (Senglea) to Valletta, close to the Old Customs’ House.
