The Armed Forces of Malta’s P-51 patrol craft on Thursday rescued 66 illegal migrants that were in distress and whose boat was without fuel and adrift.

The  AFM rescued the migrants, two of whom are female, one of whom is reported to have suffered from severe dehydration before the rescue.  The patrol boat is expected to make port back in Malta later on Thursday.

The AFM statement did not say where the immigrants were rescued.

The exact position where immigrants in distress are rescued was the root of a political row between Malta and Italy a few weeks ago.
