Provisional estimates published Monday by the NSO show that when comparing February 2009 to the corresponding month the previous year, the industrial producer price index of the sampled enterprises increased by 5.4 per cent.

In February 2009 compared with the previous month, producer prices in total industry increased by 0.6 per cent while prices in the domestic market remained relatively unchanged, except for an increase of 0.4 per cent registered in the Intermediate goods sector, followed by another increase of 0.3 per cent in the Consumer Non-Durables sector.

Prices in the eurozone market also remained stable, expect for the Intermediate Goods sector, which increased by 1.2 per cent. In the non-eurozone market, price increases of 0.2 per cent and 0.4 per cent were registered for the Capital Goods and Consumer Non-Durables markets respectively.

When comparing February 2009 to the same month last year, producer prices for the Domestic market registered increases for all Main Industrial Groupings (MIGs). On the other hand, in the Eurozone export market, decreases were registered for the Intermediate Goods and for the Capital Goods sectors.

In the non-eurozone export market, increases were registered for all Main Industrial Groupings, except for the Consumer Durables sector, which remained stable.
