Customs seize 185,000 contraband cigarettes

Customs officials have seized a total of 185,000 cigarettes on which €30,000 duty had not been paid.
Customs officials said they had been following a van and nabbed its owner, who lives in Swieqi, just as he was handing over the cigarettes to a shop owner in Msida. The cigarettes were Bon International and Superking.
In the meantime, the wife of the van owner was also caught by other Customs officials while leaving a garage in Swieqi in a van full of contraband cigarettes.
The cigarettes and the two vehicles, a Pajero and a Toyota Lite Ace, were confiscated by the officials. The police were also informed and they went on site for further investigations.
