First samples confirm strong Labour Party showing
UPDATED 1345: Sources from the Naxxar counting hall told MaltaMedia News that the first samples of number 1 preferences taken in the last hour indicate a strong Labour Party showing in these European Parliament elections, not just in its traditional districts but also in pro-PN district.
Simon Busuttil (PN) is the candidate garnering the most votes and is sure of re-election. If confirmed, this would be a repetition of his strong result five years ago. Other PN candidates with a good showing are outgoing MEP David Casa and Roberta Metsola Tedesco Triccas.
For the PL, Edward Scicluna, Louis Grech, Marlene Mizzi and Joseph Cuschieri are also getting a lot of preferences.
The first samples are also pointing towards a poor performance by Alternattiva Demokratika and the smaller parties and independent candidates.
Sorting according to number 1 preferences started at around 1245 CEST.
