Six Maltese EP seats decided, counting finally ends
UPDATED 2215 CEST: The six European Parliament seats have finally been decided and the counting of votes is dended on Tuesday evening, almost three days after the closure of polling booths on Saturday.
The Labour Party has won four of the six EP seats. These will be assigned to Louis Grech and Edward Scicluna who were clear favourites, and John Attard Montalto, who made a comeback. Joseph Cuschieri is the fourth PL seat winner and will serve as Malta’s sixth MEP>
Marlene Mizzi from Partit Laburista (PL) initally had good chances of winning a seat but John Attard Montalto inherited many votes from fellow PL candidate Claudetta Abela Baldacchino and she was consequently eliminated.
None of PL’s elected candidate reached the quota.
On the other hand, the Nationalist Party will be represented by Simon Busuttil (elected on the first count) and David Casa (elected on the 27th count with a final vote count of 56,519).
David Casa surpassed Roberta Metsola Triccas who was a favourite for a possible third PN seat which was then won by the Labour Party.
The sixth seat in the European Parliament elections for Malta has observer status only until the Lisbon Treaty is implemented.
