John Attard Montalto will not take part in EP committees
Dr John Attard Montalto, one of the three Members of the European Parliament elected on behalf of the Partit Laburista on 6th June, will not take part in European Parliament committees. He gave the news in an interview with local TV station Favourite Channel.
Though Dr Attard Montalto got the fifth highest number of first count votes, just 12880, he made an incredible comeback after Claudette Abela Baldacchino, placed right above him in the ballot sheet, shared her no. 2 votes and Dr Attard Montalto inherited most of them, thus surpassing Joseph Cuschieri and Marlene Mizzi at one go.
Thus he secured a place as the third Labour MEP. He will join the Party of European Socialists (PES) group in the European Parliament alongside Louis Grech, Edward Scicluna and eventually Joseph Cuschieri when the Maltese sixth seat is implemented with the Lisbon Treaty.
The Partit Laburista won the elections with 55% of the vote and electing four members. The PN obtained 40% of the vote.
