VGT not to increase export fees; MMA welcomes decision
Following discussions held with the Malta Maritime Authority (MMA), Valletta Gateway Terminals (VGT) Ltd has on Friday announced that a decision has been taken not to increase export fees for the local manufacture industry.
In a brief statement sent on Friday to the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, the Association of Ship Agents, the GRTU and the Association of Tractors & Trailers Operators, VGT General Manager Ricky Yong said that “we are sensitive to the particular needs of today’s industry and we are well aware of the current challenging economic environment in which this industry is compelled to operate. In view of this, we have decided to retain the same tariffs for locally manufactured goods being exported, a move that should sustain the local export industry’s competitivity,” outlined Mr Yong.
The Malta Maritime Authority expressed its satisfaction for VGT’s decision not to increase its fees and appreciated the cargo operator’s approach which should be lauded by the Industry.
VGT also specified that their current tariff will be retained for the next six months till the end of the year.
