“I will be a full MEP without voting rights”- Cuschieri
Joseph Cuschieri, the first runner-up in the European Parliament elections held on June 6th who will not take his full place until the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, will have full responsibilities like other MEPs except for voting in the plenary session and committees.
He explained his role in an interview with local TV station Favourite Channel.
Contesting on the Partit Laburista ticket, on June 6th he has obtained the third highest number of first count votes among Labour candidates, 19672. However he was overtaken in the number of votes during the counting and he ended up as the first runner up after the five MEPs were elected.
He will eventually join the Party of European Socialists (PES) group in the European Parliament alongside Louis Grech Edward Scicluna and John Attard Montalto when the Maltese sixth seat is implemented with the Lisbon Treaty.
The Partit Laburista won the elections with 55% of the vote and electing four members. The PN obtained 40% of the vote.
