On Friday, Minister for Information Technology, Transport and Communications, Dr. Austin Gatt, paid a courtesy visit to AFM Headquarters at Luqa Barracks.

He was welcomed by AFM Commander, Brigadier Carmel Vassallo, and was shown around the Vessel Traffic Management and Information Station located at the army’s Operations’ Centre.

Dr. Gatt was briefed on the AFM’s various operations at sea and the missions it conducts solely or in collaboration with other local or foreign maritime and law-enforcement agencies.

The AFM operates EU-funded state-of-the-art hardware and software technologies in the management of maritime sea vessel traffic which complements its broader national security and search-and-rescue duties within the Maltese areas of responsibilities.
