The College of Parish Priests, in a statement issued on Thursday, said that the Church wants to strengthen dialogue about the celebration of village feasts.
The parish priests insisted that confrontation in the organisation of feasts should be stopped and that collaboration in the discussion of the Church consultative document on feasts should prevail.
The parish priests said that the document had identified solutions to deal with issues that are threatening the religious nature of feasts. They said that the Church had no intention of hindering feasts as long as the religious spirit was respected.
The parish priests reiterated that ultimately, they were responsible for the feasts, both inside the churches and outside. They said that the document aims to improve the celebration of feasts by removing those elements that are against unity, religious respect and public morality.
