Church statue of Our Lady of Graces robbed of gold

Invaluable and antique gold was stolen from the statue of Our Lady of Graces found at the Zabbar Parish Church during Saturday night or early on Sunday morning.
It is not known whether one or more persons were involved in the theft.
An unknown amount of money from offertory boxes found under a number of statues and a laptop used to project readings and songs during mass were also stolen.
The parish priest informed the police about the robbery at about 0650 CET when he discovered that the tabernacle had been damaged.
Duty Magistrate Dr Miriam Hayman was informed of the case and appointed various experts to aid in the inquiry.
Police investigations continue.
