80 young women have taken part in a contest to promote respect for the environment in the Miss Earth Contest, considered the third most important beauty contest after Miss World and Miss Universe.

The contestants took part in various activities including beach cleaning and tree planting. Malta was represented by 22-year-old Alison Galea from Attard.
