SmartCity Malta will be open in the third quarter of 2010, creating numerous business opportunities for Malta. One may choose to start-up a business at the exclusive SmartCity Malta location or seek employment in the ICT and media fields that will contribute to the growth of the Maltese knowledge-based economy.

This was announced by SmartCity Malta CEO, Fareed Abdulrahman during an official visit by the Infrastructure, Transport and Communication Minister, Dr Austin The delegation had the opportunity to view the work in progress on SmartCity Malta’s first building, SCM01.

Here, construction is swiftly moving ahead on target and according to plan as the project is gearing up to welcome the first business partners. With the façade works moving ahead and the superstructure nearing completion, the delegation noted SCM01’s advanced progress. Apart from building construction, the surrounding area is in the midst of being contoured in preparation for landscaping.

In his address Minister Gatt said, “This is a very important project for this country and a milestone in how our economy is changing to become focused on high value-added services. I am therefore glad to hear that the project is on time. I am also keen to see the completion of this phase of the project so that later on this year SmartCity Malta will start operating as the ICT & media township.”

Minister Gatt said that the government is committed to deliver the key infrastructural services to compliment this project. But apart from this the Ministry has completed the General Services Unit to deliver quality service level agreements. In the meantime the Government, through this Ministry is also promoting Malta and SmartCity Malta to foreign companies.

Once complete, SmartCity Malta will be home to a vibrant knowledge-economy community anchored by leading global, regional and local companies. The project will generate a great variety of opportunities and a number of jobs in countless fields beyond the ICT and media spheres.

SmartCity Malta will also feature shopping boulevards and residential areas, which will enable Ricasoli to become the region’s premier business destination.
