The 27 national winners of the 2007 Development Youth Prize have been announced. The students aged 16 -18 years were awarded their prizes by Louis Michel, Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid during a prize-giving ceremony at the Development Days in Strasbourg which was held on 17 November 2008.

The 27 finalists will go on a five-day-trip to Zambia with the Commissioner and see development cooperation in the field. This trip will probably take place at end of March 2009. Mrs Clara Mangion is the winner from Malta with Mrs Elaine Bonavia as runner-up. They are both from St. Aloysius College Sixth Form.

The new 2008/2009 edition of the Development Youth Prize has also been launched and students can now send posters again up to 31 May 2009. More information about this year’s focus and the three new themes can be found at this link : http://www.dyp2008.org/ww/en/pub/dyp2008/index.htm.

Soon there will be additional pedagogical material available on the website to be used by teachers. It describes the problems of orphans in Rwanda. Students should discuss the case study and come up with their own ideas on how one can help the orphans. The relative poster and promotional material will be available in a few weeks’ time for distribution
