Hulda Festival: A Journey of Art and Science
The Malta Arts Festival in collaboration with MCST and the Koman Foundation is proud to present The Hulda Festival on the 3rd to the 13th July at the Grand Harbour Marina, Birgu from 09:00 CEST to 13:00 CEST and 17:00 CEST to 22:00 CEST. The Hulda Festival is part of the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Programme.
The Hulda Festival features events celebrating the coalescence of arts and sciences around Hulda, the 100-year old sailing boat of the Turkish-Swedish artist Ilhan Koman (1921 –1986). From March 2009 until November 2010 the Hulda Festival is visiting Stockholm, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Bordeaux, Lisbon, Barcelona, Naples, Malta, Thessalonica and Istanbul. The festival benefits from the active partnership of some of the most prestigious art or science institutions based in these 10 cities. In Malta the Hulda Festival is coordinated by MCST as part of the Malta Arts Festival. MCST will be organizing Arts and Science youth workshops around the sailing boat in the Hulda tent.
Ilhan Koman’s creativity has combined the arts with sciences, making him a representative of a universal approach that descends from Leonardo da Vinci. Visitors are welcome to play with the artists’ most interesting pieces of artwork to better appreciate their scientific properties and artistic qualities. The workshops all bring artistic and scientific disciplines together in order to make them more interesting. For more information on the workshops and booking contact MCST at martina.castillo@gov.mt and anthea.fabri@gov.mt, or phone +356 21660340
In an effort to reach the widest possible audiences, entrance for this event is free. For more information log on to www.maltaartsfestival.com. The Festival is supported by Marsovin, Valletta Local Council, Floriana Local Council, HSBC, Malta Post, Hotel Phoenicia and the Parliamentary Secretariat for Tourism, the Environment and Culture.
