Maltese choir participates in candlelight service in Tripoli
A choir representing the Maltese community in Tripoli participated in a Candlelight Service held at St. Francis Church in Dahra on Friday 5 December. The Candlelight Service is an annual event bringing together the different national communities preparing for the upcoming Christmas festivities.
The Service was attended by the highest representatives of the different religious communities, among them Bishop Giovanni Martinelli and Metropolitan Teofilaktos of the Greek Orthodox Church. Representatives from the World Islamic Call Society were also present. A good number of diplomats resident in Tripoli attended the Service, including Maltese Ambassador Dr. Joseph Cassar and the diplomatic staff at the Embassy of Malta.
The Service included carol singing from more than twenty different linguistic communities. The Maltese choir interpreted three traditional Christmas carols. This participation was well received by the whole Maltese community heavily represented among the congregation which packed St. Francis Church.
The Committee for Maltese Cultural Activities was responsible for coordinating the strong participation in this year’s Candlelight Service.
