Registered unemployed down to 6,823 - NSO
The National Statistics office said that the registered unemployed have decreased by 693 when compared to July 2009, but has increased by nearly one per cent when compared to June 2010.
Statistics released on Thursday morning reveal that the number of registered unemployed in July 2010 is 6,828, of which 6140 are in Malta and 688 in Gozo.
The significant reduction of unemployed appears in all age groups. In June, however the number of unemployed aged 45 and over has increased by 1.1 per cent.
In July the number of people registering as unemployed for more than one year increased by 182 whereas those registering for less than one year decreased by 875, causing thus the long-term unemployment rate to increase by 1.8 per cent.
People with disability under Part 1 of the unemployment register are 421, 82.4 per cent of which are women and 17.6 per cent are men.
In February 2010, the registered unemployment rate stood at 5.2 per cent of the labour supply. On a gender basis, the unemployment rate for men stood at 5.9 per cent, while that for women stood at 3.6 per cent.
The rate of unemployed of workers aged 45 and over stood at 5.2 per cent whereas that for workers aged under 25 stood at 6.8 per cent.
