28-year-old man charged with Qormi murder
On Saturday afternoon, 28-year-old Stephen Caruana from Qormi was charged in court with the murder of Neville Baldacchino, who was shot four times on the roof of Mr Caruana’s residence on Friday afternoon. He was also accused of illegally possessing a shotgun and firing it in an inhabited area.
Mr Caruana, who was represented by defence counsel Gianella Caruana Curran, pleaded not guilty.
Dr Caruana Curran requested bail for Mr Caruana, arguing that Mr Caruana had reported the case to the police himself and there was no risk of tampering with evidence.
However, prosecuting Police Inspector Chris Pullicino said that until Mr Baldacchino’s relatives testify Mr Caruana should not be granted bail. Bail was refused, and the court hearing was adjourned.
