Finance Minister Tonio Fenech has announced that in the first week of December in 2012, Malta will host the European Film Academy Awards, the European equivalence of the Oscars. This will award film producers, actors and directors, past winners include Sean Connery and Roman Polanski.

Past editions were held in prominent cities like London, Paris and Berlin amongst others.
