Three new ministers but Franco Debono calls for PM’s resignation
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has reshuffled his cabinet by announcing a split in the justice and home affairs ministry and appointing Mario de Marco as Minister of Tourism, the Environment and Culture, Chris Said as Minister of Justice and Jason Azzopardi as Minister for Lands, Small Business and Consumer and Competition affairs. The Prime Minister also announced that ministers will be giving up their Parliamentary honoraria in 2012 and 2013.
The Prime Minister said that PN backbencher Franco Debono’s threat to withdraw his Parliamentary support to government was not a factor in the cabinet reshuffle. However, Franco Debono called for the Prime Minister’s resignation, saying the above-mentioned decisions confirmed the government’s mistakes over the past four years.
