Turnover in services on the rise
In the third quarter of 2011, turnover in selected services activities stood at 116.2 points, up by 0.3 per cent when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2010, the NSO said on Wednesday. During this period, retail trade went up by 5.0 per cent, on account of increases registered in the food and non-food sectors of 9.1 and 3.1 per cent respectively.
Furthermore, increases were registered in transportation and storage (+7.7 per cent), and in information and communication (+2.7 per cent). During this period, wholesale trade and accommodation and food services activities fell by 8.3 and 2.7 per cent respectively.
In the third quarter last year employment in services edged up by 0.3 per cent to 98.8 points. This increase was reflected in retail trade (+1.8 per cent), wholesale trade (+1.4 per cent) and motor trade (+11.8 per cent). Declines in employment were registered in accommodation and food services activities and transportation and storage of 0.3 and 2.6 per cent respectively.
