On Thursday 23rd February, Malta’s Ambassador to France, Mark. A. Miggiani and his wife Caroline hosted another joint exhibition of Maltese art at the Maltese Embassy entitled “Double Exposure” or “Surimpressions.”

The artists chosen this time to exhibit their works were well known artists, Debbie Caruana Dingli and Tonio Mallia. This exhibition is the first exhibition of 2012 to take place at the Embassy premises, and the sixth in a series that commenced three years ago, with the scope of introducing contemporary Maltese artists to a discerning French public. The opening was very well attended by French art lovers, various EU Ambassadors as well as the artists’ Maltese friends who flew into Paris to be present for the opening. The contrasting styles of these two artists as well as their unique vision of Maltese life were much appreciated by all present.

In his introductory speech Ambassador Miggiani welcomed Debbie and Tonio to Paris. Commenting on the works he observed that while the dark humour inherent in Debbie’s oil cartoons transcends cultural barriers, the scenes of Malta depicted in Tonio’s paintings on the other hand are an invitation to those present to visit and discover Malta. The Ambassador expressed his pleasure that so many friends were present for this occasion. Their presence was especially welcome as this exhibition was the last he was organizing before his mandate as Ambassador terminates next week. This obviously rendered the occasion an especially poignant one giving the Ambassador and Mrs. Miggiani the occasion to bid farewell to some of their close friends and to thank the Embassy staff present for their support and dedication these past three years.

The exhibition was made possible through the continuing support of Express Trailers and is open to the public for viewing upon appointment until the 23rd March, 2012.
