88 migrants brought over to Malta
Following the report of a boat possibly carrying irregular migrants, around 30NM South of Malta, an AFM Islander aircraft was dispatched to the area. Subsequently, the dinghy was located and it was proceeding in a northerly direction. An AFM Austal class Patrol Vessel (P21), which was on patrol in the area, was diverted to investigate.
The dinghy was located and initial investigations revealed there were 86 migrants on board, 60 of whom were males, 24 females ,1 baby and a little girl. They are claiming to be of Somali origin. The migrants were transferred onboard P21 and were taken to Hay Warf base.
The group arrived at Hay Wharf Base onboard the P21 Patrol vessel at around 19:30pm. Six females, two males , the baby and the young girl were taken to Mater Dei in an ambulance for further medical assistance.
