Trelleborg investments save 150 employees from redundancy
Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Limited has committed to add some 85 new employees by the end of 2010 to its existing 450 workforce. This was announced by Minister Tonio Fenech on Saturday morning who said that in spite of diminished business due to the international financial crisis Trelleborg is expected to invest €2 million in 2009 and has managed to attract four foreign projects to Malta.
This is welcome news to the company’s employees who have been working on a 4-day week. It was calculated that without these investments and projects 150 of its employees would have had to be made redundant and Trelleborg’s local branch would have to start considering whether to close its local operations.
Minister Fenech said that these investments are thanks to the aids provided by government for investment in Industry and the product of good strategic directions by government. He said that the government is grateful to Trelleborg for its trust in Malta.
Martin Hignett, Managerial Driector of Trelleborg said that this is shows that Trelleborg is here to stay and that this investment will only help to continue to establish the company’s local presence.
