Din l-Art Helwa is organising the annual International Bir Miftuh Music Festival with an unusual Flute and Accordion Recital by the duo Arcadio Baracchi and Ivano Battiston on Saturday 6th June. Their programme will include works by Bartok/Battiston, M. Panni, J.S. Bach, I.Battiston and Piazzolla/Battiston.

These two renowned Italian musicians are protagonists in many established festivals and follow extensive concert calendars. Arcadio Baracchi, who lectures at the Academia di Musica di Firenze, has performed at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Biennale di Venezia.

He started his concert career at a very early age, as soloist and also with various chamber music formations playing both ancient and contemporary music. He currently performs as a soloist and chamber musician with the Contempoertensemble and the Ensemble Elastiko of which he is artistic director. He has recorded extensively and has conducted many radio transmissions. He lectures at the Accademia di Musica di Firenze.

Ivano Battiston, studied accordion and graduated with a first-class degree cum laude and honourable mention from the Castelfranco Veneto Conservatoire. He has played as a solo accordionist with many leading orchestras amongst which the RAI Torino, Milano Classica, the Arturo Toscanini Emilia Romagna Symphony Orchestra and has performed for prestigious music institutions in Italy, all over Europe, the United States and South America. He has many CDs to his credit.

This fund raising concert, which starts at 8 p.m. takes place at the medieval church of Santa Marija of Bir Miftuh which is to be found after taking the left turning at the roundabout outside Luqa Airport. Tickets are 20 euros per person and include refreshments after the concert in the Church grounds. All funds raised are dedicated to Din l-Art Helwa’s restoration programmes.
